Who is favoured to win the Cup now
5. Boston Bruins.
The Bruins were another team that has been active at the trade deadline in the past, but wound up only adding defenceman Andrej Meszaros, the often injured former first round pick (Ottawa, 2004) from the Philadelphia Flyers and bubble defenceman Corey Potter from the Edmonton Oilers. Meszaros will not come close to replacing shutdown defenceman Dennis Seidenberg, out for the season with an ACL injury. His absence is going to be a big issue for the Bruins in the post season. There is also the on going injury issue for defenceman Adam McQuaid (quad strain), who is expected to be out three weeks. That said, if there is a team that knows how to play defence, it's the Bruins under coach Claude Julien in front of goaltender Tuukka Rask. That is always going to make you a contender.
Two big question marks about the Blues: they play at a high level all season long, so are they capable of ramping their game up as they go deeper in the playoffs? That remains to be seen because they haven't been. They blew a 2 0 series lead against the Los Angeles Kings last Jimmy Choo Black Sandals Nordstrom
Here are the top five Stanley Cup contenders coming out of the trade deadline.
They've been running in first place in the league for most of the season and maybe came out of the trade deadline a touch weaker than they did going in. They picked up veteran defenceman Stephane Robidas to bolster the blueline, but traded away forward Dustin Penner and didn't deepen their centre position. Penner was fifth on the Ducks in goals, with 13, and say what you want about pancakes or weight or consistency, but he's been part of two Giuseppe Zanotti Yellow Sneakers
The defending champions only made what amounts to a depth move in acquiring defenceman David Rundblad, 23, from the Phoenix Coyotes, a former first round pick who is now with his fourth organization. By comparision, in the days leading up to last year's deadline, Bowman added centre Michal Handzus, who was an effective player for the 'Hawks in the post season run. They pretty much return their roster that won the franchise's second Cup in four years. Still relatively young, deep at every position and experienced in the biggest games, 'Hawks general manager Stan Bowman was the guy who could probably most afford to stand pat.
to watch. It's not totally a reflection on him, but Miller hasn't won a playoff round since 2007.
3. Anaheim Ducks.
Now that the Dustin (Penner) has settled at the 2014 NHL trade deadline, we can sift through the 20 trades involving 38 players and 22 draft picks (some conditional) and figure out who did themselves the most good heading into the regular season homestretch and the Stanley Cup playoffs.
spring. The other weak point was their goaltending, where injuries made Jaroslav Halak undependable. Blues GM Doug Armstrong went out and made a big move in acquiring 'tender Ryan Miller from the Buffalo Sabres (25 22 record in the playoffs), along with agitating forward Steve Ott, who should fit right into the Blues' "punish them for 200 feet" mentality under coach Ken Hitchcock. The addition of Miller is going to make the Blues one of the most intriguing teams Jimmy Choo Aza Glitter Pumps
4. Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Penguins had a relatively quiet trade deadline day compared to previous years, but the last few active deadlines haven't wound up resulting in a trip to the final, so maybe less disruption by adding big new parts will be a good thing. They were in on the Kelser talks, as well, but still managed to bolster the forwards ranks with Marcel Goc and Lee Stempniak in light of injuries to Pascal Dupuis and Beau Bennett. The Penguins have always been able to score goals, but the focus has been on stopping them the last few years. They've climbed in goals against, from 17th in 2011 12 to 12th last year, and are currently ninth this season. Goaltender Marc Andre Fleury remains the wild card. He looks like he's progressed under new goalie coach Mike Bales, but one of the top two questions every playoff season is where's The Flower's head going to be at?

One source indicated the Ducks got burned by hanging in on the Ryan Kesler talks with the Vancouver Canucks only to find out about 15 minutes before the deadline Kesler wasn't going to be moved. The Ducks are still fast and deep up front though they are young on the blueline. Robidas' experience will help with that. I still think they should have traded for Miller and they would have had a great chance of re signing him.
2. St. Louis Blues.
